Forecast Code Red Bad Air days occur when ozone levels are expected to be extremely high and air quality to be very poor. On forecast Code Red air quality days, you can ride the bus in Northern Virginia FREE!

Here's how it works:

1. From May 1st – September 15th tune into your local radio or television stations to hear the air quality forecast for the next day. Or go to the following websites:
   
   • www.ridefreenova.org (the forecast is posted on the right side of every page)
   • www.mwcog.org/environment/air/forecast/
     
     
2. If the forecast for the next day is Code Red you RIDE FREE ALL DAY.
   
   
3. Go to any bus stop in Northern Virginia (see participating agencies list) and hop-on. Fareboxes will be covered with a red plastic bag as a reminder not to pay.
